Lets give it a go

13 Apr

I think tonight will be the night that I finally sit down and count my cast on stitches and knit the ribbing for my moms Mother’s Day sweater gift. Fingers crossed

I stopped at my local goodwill store and bought three nice pyrex small mixing bowls. So exciting! I promised to make a posting soon, and I will.

Side note, anyone having issues refreshing the “topics” section in the WordPress app for iPhone/iPad? Mine would not load anything new since the last 11 days +. Ugh. I had to delete my app then reinstall it in the App Store. Please comment if u have a solution

Pyrex and knitting and friendships, oh my!

3 Apr

Did you see what I did there? I channeled my inner Dorot….oh never mind (I say with a laugh and a toss of the hand).

▪I have my knitting group tonight, very excited. We do it at the little cafe in town (a few pictures are up on my hknits in fb, see the side column for easy access —> ). Looking forward to time with the ladies and hoping to finish the body of this self striping baby sweater. Lets just say that I’m highly unmotivated to keep it going at this point.

▪I knitted and blocked my gauge square for my really awesome up coming sweater project, however I am off by one stitch (!!) in the swatch. Ahhh! I knitted it with size 7 needles as recommended, with the same exact yarn, knit picks comfy – Sport weight. I feel like if I go up to a size 8 needle, the sweater will be just a bit too loose-stitched. Does that even make sense? Well, I will knit up a new gauge swatch tonight and block it and remeasure it in the morning. Hopefully. I won’t have to make a third swatch.

▪Can someone explain measuring gauge to me again? Why do the patterns say to make a gauge of 4inches, but all of the knitting videos I have found use a 2 x 2 gauge window. (i.e. the metal Susan bates gauge checker)!?!? Am I supposed to double the number of stitches I counted in the window to get to the 4″ gauge measurement? Am I supposed to assume that the stitches will be the same in theory for the other two inches I am not measuring for?

▪My husband interrupted, and still is, my thought process while writing the last few questions….with his loud guitar playing. Ugh. I. Am. Trying. To. Concentrate. I think he has to constantly hear himself talk and play the guitar and recite the last brain waning he read most recently from a book about life…I like the quiet.
